Fishing report for Pembrokeshire Anglers Association June 2013
The fishing has improved ( started ) over the last 10 days or so on our beat one. Adrian Batty has caught 3 Salmon up to 11lb on Rapala and worm and a 5lb Sea Trout on the fly, Martyn Lewis has had a Salmon of 9lb on a Rapala and a Sea Trout of 4lb on small silver and black tube fly in the Horse shoe pool, Andrew Jenkins is getting into the Sea Trout at night capturing 5 up to 5lb on the wet flies and Muddler Minnow skating across the surface at midnight , Mike Smith had a 3lb Sea Trout in the Gorgon pool .Other members are hooking and landing fish but it is a bit early in the season for them to “share ” where they are having fish !!! Sea trout are being regularly sighted at night jumping in most pools up as far as St Catherine`s Bridge and a few above.
The Brown Trout fishing on the fly has been exceptional helped by the best hatches of May fly seen for years , the river is alive with various clouds of flies hatching and blowing around like clouds . The trout look a lot fatter this season , members are putting it down to the late arrival of sea trout not getting to the food first . They are feeding heavily even after midnight . I have landed fish all through the night on Dunkeld`s and Alexander`s and the biggest over 14 inches was on a 2 inch surface lure fishing for Sewin .The visiting anglers are also having tremendous fun easily catching a dozen fish in an hour on nymphs and dries .
Hopefully this is the start of a good season !!! not a wash out like last year !!
