No Sympathy, just Sewin!

A few years ago, me and my friend were sitting upon St. Catherine's bridge; contemplating a full day's fishing at Llys y Fran the next day. When a fisherman walked down from up stream carrying his bag, rod, and a net; which seemed to have a silver bar in it. Eager to ask about his trip, the fisherman was more than happy to show us his intended quarry. As he opened up his net; a salmon emerged. It was about 6 lbs and well over a foot long! He said he caught it by spinner on the tail of the round pool.

Two thirteen year old boys soon became eager members of the Angling Association. Since then new fly rods, reels, line and flies were bought. This is our second year fishing the Western Cleddau.

I fished the Western last night 15/06/2010, below St. Catherine's bridge, fishing the Bridge pool, the runs above and below the Horseshoe pool, and the Tudors pool. Using classic flies such as Teal Blue and Silver, Peter Ross, Bloody Butcher, Black Pennell, and the Ace of Spades, and a gold head Ace of Spades for the deeper pools; with only a 4 oz brownie, which was returned unharmed.

I am a very patient fisherman, and this is only my 5th time out this year because of GCSE's! But over the past 3 years on the river; going out quite often, I have only managed to catch brown trout; the biggest caught being only about 6 oz!!

I would like some info on location, flies spinners or bait, and a most productive time of day.

JUST SEWIN

your choice of flies is excelent . you do not say times you fished . this may be the problem . the best time for sewin is about 1/2hr before dark till as late as you can. if your problems still persist i will be happy to take you out one evening . i am a P.F.A.C coach. tight lines.

hi gareth, try the tails of the two pools in the first big horseshoe below the bridge also try the run into and the head of the pool below tudors.good luck.

It's great to hear of some of our younger members enjoying their fishing - please do keep posting on the blog and let us know how you get on!

And hope the GSCE's went well too!
